At Senedu Consulting, our volunteer experience and social impact demonstrates a longstanding commitment to advocacy, community health, and empowerment, spanning from global health initiatives to career development programs.
Each volunteer initiative has been focused on driving community connection, awareness, and access to resources through advocacy and empowerment.
Active Initiatives
2024: Volunteer Trilingual Translator: Amharic to French, English to French with Open Hearts Big Dreams (https://openheartsbigdreams.org/). Translated educational resources to expand language accessibility for communities.
2023 – Present: Founder & Organizer, Road2Healing San Diego (R2HSD) spearheading various community initiatives such as:
- 2024 San Diego Autism Awareness-: Organized an autism and conscious parenting awareness event to connect families with resources and support services within the community.
- 2023 San Diego Mental Health Awareness Project: Organized, managed and hosted a community wide mental health event with over 250 in attendance. The event featured County and State resources, a law enforcement Q&A, and a youth panel to foster family dialogue and raise mental health awareness.
2023 - Founder, The Autism Journey Series – Created and hosted a monthly virtual discussion series centered around autism awareness, tailored to the global Ethiopian community.
2022–Present: Chapter Co-Lead, Reaching Families Advocacy and Support Group
(https://reachfamilies.org/), California Chapter Organizes various autism awareness events, including annual programs at the Meskel Festival, building inclusive support for families in Southern California.
2021 – Current: Fundraising and Planning Committee: Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Ethiopia benefiting AlemFre Breast Cancer Foundation (https://www.abcfonline.org/).
2021 – current: 1903 Club, an Ethio-American Diplomatic Group–Facilitate diplomatic dialogues within Ethiopian American Community.
2007 – Present Founder, Career Coaching & Mentoring Initiative– Offer pro bono career mentoring, resume building, interview preparation, and networking skills.
Past Initiatives
Organizer - Community Health Initiative Organizer: Coordinated free mammograms and health screenings within the Ethiopian-American community, increasing access to vital health resources.
Founder, Abugida Youth Mentorship Program Supported high school students in college and career preparation, helping over 10 participants successfully transition to higher education and professional careers.
Co-Author, Volunteer Research Assistant, University of California San Diego School of Medicine San Diego Ethiopian-American Study Group – Supported HIV/AIDS research with UCSD, co-authoring a study “ Risk perception and beliefs regarding HIV infection among Ethiopian immigrants” Guilford Press, October 2009
Community Organizer, San Diego Ethiopian Health Drive– Partnered with UCSD to deliver health screenings and HIV/AIDS awareness programs for the local Ethiopian community.
Fundraiser, Dire Dawa Flood Relief – Led a fundraising initiative to support victims of flash floods in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia.
President Horn of Africa Student Association at UCSD–Established an organization to foster support, cultural connection, and advocacy for students from the Horn of Africa.
Campaign Leader, AIDS Awareness and Cultural Conference – Organized community health and AIDS awareness events as part of a cultural conference to strengthen health education in the region.
Book Drive Organizer -Led a campaign that collected over 5,000 science textbooks for donation to Ethiopian colleges facilitated by the Fregenet Foundation.
